Kanagala Factory, Belgaum (KFB)

Orgin & History

The HLL, Kanagala plant located at Kanagala Village, Hukkeri Taluka, Belagavi District in the state of Karnataka,was established in 1985 and commenced its operations with the production of condoms in 1987 using Japanese technology. This unit underwent diversification in 1992 with the formulation and tabletting of Saheli (Centchroman) the indigenous, non-steroidal once-a-week pill and in 1994 with the tabletting facility for birth control pills - Mala-D/N.The tableting of Emergency Contraceptive pills started in 2003 and manufacturing plant of Ormeloxifene API started in 2004.Commercial manufacturing of women’s healthcare products commenced in 2006.

HLL-KFB also added a state-of-the-art formulation plant – UNIPILL Block in 2012. The Plant gained Prequalification (PQ) status from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Geneva for the manufacturing of Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg, an oral contraceptive Pill. We are also in the process of adding more Oral Contraceptive Pills in the basket with WHO PQ.

To address the menstrual hygiene needs of women, a new Sanitary Napkins manufacturing facility with a capacity to produce 392 Mpcs of Sanitary Napkins per annum became operational in 2013, the Sanitary Napkins Plant has BIS certificate. The HLL-KFB unit has GMP and quality management systems (QMS) like ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015, ISO 45001: 2018 and ISO 13485: 2016.
